Downtown Monroe Welcomes Three New Businesses with Incentive Grants

The City of Monroe is excited to announce three new businesses coming to Downtown Monroe, supported by economic development incentive grants aimed at fostering growth and revitalization in the Central Business District.

Murphy’s on Main:

  • A new retail mercantile and general store by owner Cassi Gonzales
  • Located at 108 N. Main Street
  • Opening Saturday, March 29
  • Awarded $8,700 in PRONTO Incentive Grants for rent subsidy

ClipperZ:

  • A new retail barber and salon by owners Mike and Karyl Jones
  • Located at 215 E. Franklin Street
  • Opening in April
  • Awarded $8,598 PRONTO Incentive Grant, which includes up-fit assistance and rent subsidies

 E.L.K. of Monroe:

  • A new restaurant by owner Jason Hill
  • Located at 301 E. Franklin Street.
  • Opening early fall
  • Awarded a total of $19,000 in incentives, including:
  • $10,000 PRONTO Incentive Grant for up-fit assistance and rent subsidy
  • $4,000 Façade Incentive Grant for exterior improvements
  • $5,000 Meet Me Downtown Marketing Grant to support advertising and outreach

Hill says ELK is an acronym that stands for three things he loves most: eggs, legs, and kegs. Hill says his restaurant will serve a variety of dishes including deviled eggs, chicken legs, and craft beer.

“These incentive grants, approved by the Downtown Advisory Board and City Council, align with the Downtown Master Plan’s mission to encourage business growth, stimulate the local economy, and enhance Monroe’s historic downtown,” said Downtown Manager Donna O’Keefe.
