Solid Waste
The City of Monroe contracts with Waste Pro for solid waste collection. We offer weekly garbage, bulk, and yard waste service. Recycling is collected every other week. Residents will be provided with one green 96-gallon cart for garbage and one black 96-gallon cart for recyclables.
February Recycling Calendar
- There are no scheduled collection delays in February.
Quick Tips
- Place your carts no more than four feet from the curbside by 7 a.m. on your day of service. You can place your carts on the curb anytime after 5 p.m. the night before.
- Remove your carts from the curbside no later than 7 p.m. on the same day of your service to avoid receiving any violations.
- Leave a two-foot space between your two carts and any obstructions like mailboxes, parked cars, utility poles, etc. When placing your carts curbside, place them with the wheels facing your home.
- Do not place grass clippings, yard waste, medical waste, construction and building materials, auto parts, electronics, or hazardous waste in your garbage cart.
To report missed garbage, recycling, bulky or yard waste collection or if you have general questions, please call 704-282-4565.
In an effort to keep the City of Monroe beautiful, we ask that residents bag all the garbage being placed in the green garbage carts. Litter occurring while emptying roll-out garbage carts with unbagged garbage will be the household's responsibility to clean up. This only applies to the garbage carts. Please do not place bags in the recycling cart.
Back Door Collection
If you are unable to get your carts out for service, please call the Solid Waste office to inquire about the back door collection offered to qualifying residents.

- What is the Adopt-a-Street Program?
-
Adopt-a-Street is a community-wide program that encourages citizens to help reduce litter. Participants agree to pick up litter from their adopted street at least four times per year. The City of Monroe will provide bags and vests. The City will also provide signs on your street in recognition of your litter-reduction efforts.
- How Does the Program Work?
-
- Participants must register with project coordinator for the Adopt-a-Street program by calling 704-282-4565.
- The project coordinator will designate the street(s) available for adoption.
- Any local community organization, business, or individual less than 16 years old requires adult supervision.
- The agreement form must be approved, signed and dated.
- Large groups should be divided into teams of eight or fewer members.
- All participants should review safety rules and guidelines.
- The project coordinator will provide information on garbage disposal.
- Participants are encouraged to recycle.
- A street sign noting the program and the participant's name will be posted in the area.
The project will be monitored by the project coordinator. After each cleanup, adopting groups must file a report detailing the number of people involved, number of bags of litter and recyclables, and hours involved.
