Public Input Map
The City of Monroe is developing a Downtown Master Plan to guide future growth, investment, and improvements in our downtown area. Community feedback is a critical part of this process. To make it easy for residents, business owners, employees, and visitors to share their ideas, the City has launched an interactive Public Input Map.
This map allows you to drop points directly on a map of downtown to highlight what is working well, what needs improvement, and where you see opportunities for the future. All submitted input will help inform priorities and recommendations in the Downtown Master Plan.
Purpose of the Public Input Map
The Public Input Map is designed to:
- Identify areas, places, and features that are essential and valued in Downtown Monroe
- Highlight locations that need improvements related to safety, accessibility, infrastructure, or appearance
- Gather community ideas for development, uses, and enhancements
- Ensure local knowledge and lived experience help shape the Downtown Master Plan
Getting Started
Read the map directions with example images in English (PDF) or in Spanish (PDF).
When you first open the Public Input Map, you will see a disclaimer. This disclaimer must be acknowledged before you can view and interact with the map. It also includes brief instructions to help you get started.
Once acknowledged, the proposed downtown boundary will appear, shown as a yellow dashed line. This boundary combines several important character sub-districts into one planning area, including:
- Downtown Core Area
- Historic District
- Winchester
- Five Points Area
- Skyway Drive Corridor
If you need to review the instructions again, refresh the map to reopen the splash screen.
Navigating the Map
Desktop users: Zoom in and out using your mouse wheel, or by clicking the white "+" and "–" buttons at the top of the map
Mobile users: Use a pinching motion on the screen to zoom in and out
How to Drop a Point
You can place your point in one of two ways:
- Zoom into the map and left-click anywhere within the downtown boundary.
- Use the search box in the top-left corner to search for an address, then select it from the dropdown list.
Points cannot be placed outside of the proposed downtown boundary. To select a place to add a point:
- In the bottom-left corner of the map, click the blue “Drop a Point” button.
- A list of general comment categories will appear.
- Select the category that best matches your feedback. Once selected, the category list will close.
Once placed, your point will appear in teal until all details are completed and submitted.
Adding Details to Your Point
After placing a point:
- Select a subtype or subcategory from the dropdown menu to better describe your input.
- Choose the level of urgency for your comment: Now, Soon, or Later.
- Use the comment box to provide additional details or explain your concern or idea.
- Click Submit in the bottom-left corner to finalize your point.
If you click Cancel before submitting, the point will be deleted.
Note: If you attempt to change the category after placing a point, you may see a “Subtype changed” message. This means the subtype list needs to refresh. Keep the default option (“Use default values”) selected and click Apply to continue.
You are able to add as many points as you like throughout the downtown area.
Viewing Map Input
Once submitted, your point will appear on the map. You can click on any point to view its details, including points submitted by other community members. This allows you to explore shared feedback and see common themes across downtown.
