Teen Volunteer Program
About the Program
Applications are currently open for the Summer session.
The teen volunteer program is for ages 13 to 17. It intends to offer education and real-world experience to exceptional students in Union County. Our program can benefit those who are looking to enter a STEM or educational career.
Teen Volunteer Requirements
There are two enrollment sessions per year:
- Summer session (May to August)
- School year session (August to May)
If accepted into either, you can continue in the following sessions for up to one year of service. After one year, you will need to reapply if you have not aged out. Once you reach your 18th birthday, you can no longer participate in the teen program and must apply for the Adult Volunteer Program if you wish to continue.
Teen volunteers are asked to volunteer a minimum of 80 and a maximum of 130 hours per session. No more than 2 days a week and not more than 4-hours per shift.
Apply to Become a Teen Volunteer
Interested applicants must complete the program application and provide one reference letter from academic or civic sources. Personal or family references will not be accepted. Once the application and references are submitted, the applicant will be subject to an interview process.
If accepted into the program, the program leader will introduce the volunteer on their first day at the Science Center.
Volunteer Guidelines
Before completing your application, please read the full Teen Volunteer Program Guidelines (PDF).
The Monroe Science Center retains the authority to remove a volunteer from the program for violating the guidelines.
Code of Conduct
Teen volunteers are expected to follow a code of conduct while participating in the program. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action up to and including dismissal from the program. Prohibited conduct, such as drug or alcohol use, will result in removal from the program.
